This I Believe

I believe that family is important. Family should always be there for each other no matter what. There was a situation in the past that made me realize that family is important.

I remember the day when I got jumped into a gang. A couple of my cousins didn't like me because they were from the opposite gang I was in. Both gangs were rivals, so we didn't talk. I remember one day when I was walking down Lancaster a car full of rival gang members pulled up on me, hopped out of the car with bats, knives, and crow bars and started chasing me towards Market Street where some of my cousins live. I ran over there and when I got there, they asked me why I was going to their house when we didn't get along. I told them what had happened and they said, "I know we're from rival gangs but I think it's about time we act like real family and stop letting all this gang crap get in the middle of us," and so after we were done talking we went to go look for the guys who tried to run up on me. After all that was done we started getting along.

So that is why I think family is important because they will always be there for you no matter what. There are a lot of people that don't get along with somebody from their family, but that doesn't last very long because after awhile they will get over all that hate and start getting along again. They know that they can't hate each other forever since they're family.
